INTRODUCTION Braidwood, a rare surviving example of a Georgian planned rural village has recently been Heritage Listed in its entirety. The first time a town has been listed on the East coast, it acknowledges and celebrates the towns’ uniqueness and protects and nurtures its future. Rarely can visitors step back in time and experience the history, culture, architecture and lifestyles of an early 19th Century village that residents of Braidwood live today. Braidwood’s most famous landmark property, The Doncaster Small Luxury Hotel is today the districts finest boutique hotel accommodation, licensed bar, restaurant and conference centre. Formerly a Catholic Convent, the property sits in the centre of the village on an acre of peaceful gardens and is within walking distance of the many cafes, restaurants, golf course and Museum. After million dollar renovations in 2004, The Doncaster now offers a sophisticated marriage of period and contemporary design rarely found in regional Australia. In Winter 2006, a series of guest chef events will be offered, and an
exhibition of David Boyd’s early works will be on display. Rated 17/20 by the Sydney Morning Herald. |
